cartooning and caricatures

artist bio

Remember "way-back-when" when you had a sense of humor and an open mind? IT’S STILL THERE! Renew your spirit of fun by hiring a caricaturist for your next party or event.

On-site or On-line Caricatures are a great entertainment & gift idea.

Party Caricatures are a great live entertainment and giveaway for private and company parties and picnics, charity and corporate events, trade shows/conventions, weddings, bar/bat mitzvahs, or any event!

I’ve been drawing caricatures for over 20 years and, with my cartoon style, I aim to make each caricature not only funny but personalized.

But Wait!
The caricature is only part of the package. While you’re sitting in the ‘hot seat’, I try to engage you in conversation, make you feel comfortable and get you laughing while I am exaggerating your features to bring out the “real you!” You and your guests are entertained, plus everyone takes home a memento of the event.

What do you get with a party caricature?
I draw full face caricatures on 11 x 17 paper*. I use black markers and add color with conte and pastels. Profile caricatures can also be done for large groups because they’re faster. Rubber bands or plastic bags are provided to transport the masterpiece home.

*I can provide preprinted paper (logo/event info) at additional cost.

How many can you draw in an hour?*
-- For small groups, we can take a little more time and add more personal detail and color to each drawing – each one can take approximately 10 minutes.
-- For large groups, we speed it up a little and only add a splash of color, allowing up to approximately 15 caricatures per hour.
-- If the group is massive, I’ll draw heads only so that we can try to include as many folks in the time allotted! Then I go home and collapse into a bubble bath.

*Number of caricatures per hour is approximate and cannot be guaranteed.

What area do you serve?
I serve the Dallas area, but will drive a bit farther for an additional charge. The minimum is still 2 hours.

What are the costs and how do I pay you?

Can you make custom caricatures from photographs?
custom Caricatures are a great gift idea for friends, family, coworkers and creditors! (just kidding).

Just provide a few photos of the victim, er, subject, and fill out a quick questionnaire that I will provide to give me a little fun information. A full color caricature will be provided on 8 ½ x 10 or 11 x 17 bond paper.

How much do custom caricatures cost?
A full color (marker with colored pencil), caricature on 8 ½ x 11 paper is $45. The cost for 11 x 17 paper is $55. Shipping costs are added, depending on the type of shipping you prefer and need.

Add an additional $20 to the price for each additional person added to the caricature.

What’s the turnaround time for custom caricatures?
Once I receive (via email or mail) the photos of the subject and a completed questionnaire, a rough sketch for your approval can be done within a couple of days. Once you have approved the sketch, the final masterpiece can be completed and sent within a week.*

*Disclaimer: This will of course depend upon the season and demand!

I love to illustrate books, design T-shirts, greeting cards, and cartoon logos, and provide humorous illustrations for advertising and promotional materials.

I’ve also had great fun drawing for non-profits, specifically the SPCA of Texas and the National Audubon Society. I love that I can help teach about animals and nature through cartooning.

Non profit organizations I have provided illustrations for include: The SPCA of Texas, National Audubon Society, Boston Terrier Rescue, Labrador Retriever Rescue, Dallas Peace Center, Head Start, Toastmasters International, Society for the Prevention of Blindness, and the American Association of Zookeepers (AAZK).

artist bio

Like many artists, I started doodling at an early age. When most kids were riding their bicycles or playing sports, I was plopped under a tree with a sketch pad. Oh, I’ve tried to have real jobs in the past, and I’ve found some great success with work that allows me to utilize my artistic skills (see wildlife work and speaking & performance work), but I always go back to my main passion – cartooning.

I began drawing caricatures at Astroworld (now Six Flags) in Houston, Texas, in the summer of 1978. As I traveled the United States, I drew caricatures to barter for meals and room & board. When I finally settled in Dallas, I started drawing professionally for parties and events, trade shows and conventions.
